Christmas Festival in Bethlehem, CT. Dec.7 & 8th

Well, the show is coming up in 5 days, and I'm still madly creating new pieces to take, to entice some folks to purchase my wares. Madly stringing beads into necklaces, some iPod charms, eyeglass leashes, bookmarks, earrings, and tree decorations.

Was going to make a few more handbags, but I think the jewelry and accessories sell better since they are lower in price, and they did so well for me last year, so figured I'd go with what worked before.

A couple of days ago the weather man said that Friday looked like good weather, now this evening there is a snow storm looming! Sure hope it is diverted, since the show doesn't provide a snow date, and I'm not at all sure we could get our money back. That would be a large downer, especially for my oil I promised to pay my rather large balance (from last May) with the proceeds...oops!

So other than making more product, I also have to make a table cover for an 8' table, which I am renting from them. I have a 6' one that I may be able to alter, but not sure.
I also may have to buy a 4'table to make up the 12' space I paid for, unless I can figure out how to use my folding screen in the 4' space, without totally covering the people next to me! Not a good public relations ploy!

Etsy is really slow for me, both Eclectic Oddities, and Fabric Annex...had one sale over the weekend, so guess I've missed out on the Christmas rush, since the mailing cut off date is coming quickly. But what else is new? Last year was dreadful too, and the only thing that saved me was the Bethlehem Show. Needless to say, I'll really be doing a NO-SNOW dance on Thursday nite.

My Necklace Makes the Big Time!

Yesterday one of my Jewelry pieces was listed in an online newsletter that probably goes international, as well as national!

The Beading Daily newsletter had the theme of jewelry made using "0-rings" and after the main featured item, was a list of 4 designers who had used them in their work, as well. And my necklace was #4, with a direct link to my Etsy shop!

I don't know how many views the piece had before, probably between 100 to 200, but now it has over 1,000! Wow! Now if only someone would love it enough to buy it!

Home from the Hospital

Well it's been a week since my surgery, and I'm feeling a whole lot better than I did last week at this time!

I had a hiatal hernia operation, and what was supposed to be a 3 day stay in the hospital, turned out to be 5 days, and instead of 3 small incisions for the laparoscopy, I have 6. And boy am I black and blue!

Still only on soft mushy food and liquids, so hopefully it will start me on the way to losing weight!

The altered book refered to in a previous post, was picked up by the book sellers, 2 weeks ago and from what Elena said they were very impressed! And they think it can be sold for a 4 figure amount. We will be giving each participant in the project, an amount equivilant to the amount of work that they did. Due to the time constriction at the point of receiving the book, a few of the gals didn't have a chance to do a whole lot, since they had to forward it on to the next person.

That left over 25 double page spreads for me to complete. But it was a good experience and I really want to do a whole one on my own. I have a few ideas about themes, so we'll see come January and the slow selling season, how much inspiration I can drum up.

September was my best selling month since joining Etsy in January '06. Nothing to pop a cork over, but still it beats going a month without any sales at all! And with the 2 shops, I find that the Fabric Annex is supplimenting the NoDuplicates (Eclectic Oddities) shop, so I don't feel completely invisible.

Guess it's time for more liquid diet, so hasta la vista(sp?) baby!

Nearly the End of August !

Well another week has begun and it's a dreary overcast day, but nice and cool, so I'm not complaining.

Actually went out to dinner last night with my old friend Pat, and then we went to see "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". It's the first time I've seen one of the series on the "big screen"...quite a difference from a tv experience.

Really enjoyed myself, even thought Pat had to convince me to leave the house! Guess I'll have to do it more often, since my frame of mind is a lot better today than it has been for a while.

No sales over the weekend, but nothing new there. Anything that sells, usually goes during the week....strange, but I guess during the summer folks do other things than shop on weekends....that is, those folks who have a normal life style.

Bought a bunch of tutorials from Eni Oken and plan to try some of them out this week. Love the look of wire wrapping, now have to master the techniques. Not sure if I'll add any to my shop, but will definitely have some for the show in Bethlehem (CT) the first weekend of December.

Gotta get something for "breakfast" so will continue later or tomorrow.

Missed my TGIF post

Well I had a post all ready to go and put it in the draft folder, then couldn't figure out how to post it, as there were no buttons in view. So deleted it. Nothing really earth shattering, so doesn't really matter.

Today has been a gorgeous day, breezy, cool and sunny. Actually did a laundry and hung it outdoors. That's about all the constructive work accomplished this afternoon though.

Nothing new in the sales department, so really nothing to pontificate about! Back to the dull, dreary, daily routine. Think I'll do some work on the Altered Book tonight...after I straighten out the studio.

That's a plan, and guess I'll go start.................

I really must get a life!

I'm back once again....there has to be more to my life than just sitting at this computer and skimming the forums on Etsy and playing games on Pogo, and now coming here to just run off at the fingertips.

It really is very boring! But I just can't get up enough energy to do something constructive....Oh I did actually clean off the top of my stove, which really needed to be done, but other than that, I feel like my cats; just lying around, eating and sleeping! Oh and yeah, they have managed to acquire some fleas that are driving them crazy...luckily I don't happen to have that problem as well.

What more can happen around here to make my life a misery! The heat and tropical humidity today were terrible, so that's my excuse for not mowing the lawn at least. The weekend is supposed to be quite cool for August, so it will be the perfect time to do some garden and lawn work.

If I can ever figure out how to add pictures to this thing, I'll put up a few shots of the cats, as well as some of the garments I've made that are not for sale on private wardrobe pieces and exhibit pieces.

I hear Pogo calling, so will sign off for today.............................

Fabric Annex starting to get some big sales!

Wow, I listed some plaid squares that I hand cut a few years ago for a quilt, and sold 2 of the 4 listed bundles within 20 hours of listing!

That's something new and different! Now I can pay for all the listings I've put up for Fat Quarters, where I don't make a thing after Etsy and Paypal charges.....probably not even what I originally paid for the fabric itself. oh well....atleast I'm making a little dent in my collection.

It's really humid and heavy here in Connecticut today, so have the windows and doors closed now, so that I can breath. Would you believe I have only taken out 3 items from my Summer closet so far this season? I've been staying home so much, there's no need to make the big switch I guess.

I really must do some work on the Altered Book project, as Elena wants it in her hands before the middle of September to show some book sellers she deals with. This weekend it's supposed to be really Fallish, so maybe I can work on the second floor and not get over heated. Would like to do atleast 4 more double page spreads before sending it to her. Have everything in boxes by theme, just have to get motivated....therein lies the rub....most of the time I'd rather sit here and play Pogo word games, or surf with "stumble upon".

Really have to get my act together soon! Also have to start creating some jewelry and handbags for the Christmas sale the first weekend of December. That was a really successful sale for me last year, and it was the first "craft show" I had done in probably 25 to 30 years! The jewelry went the best , although a few other items seemed popular also.

Going to go now and start a new handbag design construction. Hope it lives up to my expectations!

Hey...My Poster was one of the winning 60 chosen on Etsy!

Wow!! Etsy had a poster contest using their Treasury format, and the poster that I curated was one of 60 which is going to be printed up to hand out at craft fairs and in publicity mailings!

That's pretty cool! None of my work was chosen for a poster, but that's ok, as they said they will be publicizing the curators, as well as those people whose work is shown. I'm ok with that I think.

Announcement was made this afternoon, and I just happened to find it in the forums.

Spent most of the afternoon scanning and editing fabric for the Fabric Annex, and put up 4 different groupings of plaid charm squares. Would be nice to sell those after all the time it took to cut each one out individually!

Guess I'll go and list a couple more Halloween cards. Have about 5 left that haven't been seen before, so it's about time to get them up there.

Another Day in the Life

Well here it is Tuesday evening already, and I managed to finish 4 tote bags for the shop, and will probably have my friend Nan model them tomorrow so that I can get them up in the shop.

They are all in the blue family, and are really meant to be shopping bags to take when you buy groceries....keep America Green....Down with Plastic Bags!!

I have to get some more fabric scanned so that there will be something to post in the Fabric Annex as well. Seems like I can list faster than I can scan and edit, but with Internet Explorer so damned slow, it makes sense!

One of my kitties, Lucy, is not feeling too well today, and isn't eating, so don't know if I'll have to take her to the vet tomorrow or not. Certainly hope not, but what will be, will be.

Need to get some supper before it gets too late, so will end this entry now.....

Artsy Daze...My perpetual state of mind!

A new beginning, a new way of communicating, and another step on the internet highway. It seems peculiar to be writing something open to public view, but having performed on stage and in front of classrooms of students for years, I guess this is not a whole lot different...just silent, as apposed to spoken verbiage.

The title says a great deal about me, and my way of life. I seem to be constantly working on some aspect of art, whether it is clipping magazine pictures for collage work, or going through my fabric stash to decide what to sell in the Fabric Annex on Etsy, or sewing a garment, handbag or wallhanging for Eclectic Oddities, my first and longest lived shop on Etsy.

Of course, not all of my time is taken up with such endeavors, there's the feeding of my 4 cats, and the neighborhood strays that I keep alive and well by feeding them twice a day, and the picking up of clumps of cat hair, the occasional hairball, and other such disagreeable chores.

But all in all, if I'm not haunting the Etsy forums, I'm doing something constructive to keep me out of trouble in my retirement years.

I can't believe it has been 13 years since I took early retirement from teaching Art and Theatre at the high school level. It has absolutely flown by, with a few bumps in the time line, but not so bad that I couldn't bounce back after a while.

Currently I have become somewhat of a hermit, spending days at a time without driving the car or going outside other than to feed the local cats. It feels good not to "have" to go anywhere. Today was the first appointment I have had in 3 weeks, and felt like a big deal to try to find something appropriate to wear to a doctor's appointment. Somehow a pair of shorts and a T-shirt just wouldn't do.

Now I have the rest of the week to "play" and will only go out to get some groceries and maybe a trip to Costco for some necessities.

Think I've come to the point where I must put my body to bed, so will end this rather revealing post for the time being and perhaps edit it tomorrow....or I should say, this afternoon!
